About Sentence Shuffle
Sentence Shuffle takes a proverb, cuts it into separate words and shuffles them. Somewhere in the jumble is a saying you have probably heard many times. Rebuild it.
How it works
The loose words sit in a row. Tap one and it moves up onto the line. Tap the next, and so on. If you change your mind, tap any word on the line to send it back, or use "Clear the line" to start again.
When the last word is placed, the game checks the whole line. If it matches the saying, the words turn green. If not, you are told so, and you can rearrange until it does. The sayings are between four and nine words long, and the game counts your taps.
Putting it together
Find the start. English sentences very often begin with "the", "a", "an", or a word like "every", "all", "many", "when" or "where". Proverbs also like to begin with a command, such as "look" or "practice".
Find the verb. Words such as "is", "are", "makes", "saves" or "catches" sit in the middle and divide the saying into a before and an after.
Pair up words that belong together. "Silver" goes with "lining". "Early" goes with "bird". "Better" is followed sooner or later by "than". Once you have a pair, you have reduced the puzzle.
Say it aloud. Proverbs have a rhythm, and a wrong order usually sounds wrong.
Do not place words you are unsure of. Build the part you know, then fit the remainder around it.
If the words are familiar but the saying will not come, try the last word first. Endings are often the most memorable part.
It is a short, cheerful puzzle, and among HTML5 games it is one of the easiest to share with someone learning English.
